My general approach is one of empathy and open mindedness. In our first appointments, I spend time getting to know you and what has caused difficulty in your life. Once I have a better understanding of these difficulties, I come up with a plan with you for your best treatment course. I can provide medication management, psychotherapy or a combination of these depending on your optimal treatment. I can work in collaboration with an existing psychotherapist if that is the best for you.
When I do suggest medications, I take care to choose the most appropriate ones with the best changes of success. I try to simplify medications as much as possible and will only advise using them when I feel there is a clear likelihood of them helping.
Psychotherapy is a very individual process, but certain approaches can be best for different kinds of problems. I offer several modalities, including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and supportive psychotherapy, depending on what would work best for you. We can talk through it more if that is what we decide is the best way forward.
I see treatment decisions as a collaborative process and that understanding the patient’s viewpoint is the best way to a good outcome. I strive to make my private practice a safe place to discuss whatever sensitive or complicated issues may come up.
